When in doubt…Mod Podge

I found this adorable poster awhile back with the intension of framing it to hang in my basement “birdie” bathroom.  I had a few ideas of how I was going to display it…but wasn’t exactly content with any of them.  I had some extra burlap from a previous project & so I decided to cover a canvas with the burlap & mod podge my poster to the burlap covered canvas.  I LOVE how it turned out.

Here’s what you need: canvas, poster, mod podge, foam brush, scraper, burlap & a staple gun.

The first step was to cover my canvas with burlap.  I stapled it to the back of the frame.

After the burlap is attached, I place the poster on the canvas and mark the 4 corners.  Then I start covering the burlap with mod podge.

Once I’ve covered the burlap completely, I place my poster on the canvas.  And completely cover my poster with the mod podge.  Remember it dries clear so don’t stress if you get it on the burlap outside of your border.  Then I scrape from the center out to eliminate any lines or creases.  It’s not going to be perfect.  If you rub too much you may rub a little of the poster off.  Actually I did that a little in some areas and it made it look worn & old.  I kindof like that.

If you are patient, it will be dry overnight.  Me not so patient.  So I used my hair dryer to dry it.  Then to match the little rips in the paper that I had made by mistake, I used Annie Sloans dark wax & rubbed it all over the poster & all of the burlap to give it an aged look.  I think it turned out pretty good.  I think next time I’m going to try this on some old wood.  And really rub off some of the poster.  I LOVE the aged look on it.
